Quality management at »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â

The »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â (»ÆÉ«²Ö¿â) approach to quality management is about finding ways of enhancing the learning opportunities made available to students, as well as assuring quality and standards.

It is important that this approach is not seen solely as a 'top-down' process, but also as a 'bottom-up' approach where ownership starts within the programme and module levels. Changing practice in, and views of, learning, teaching and assessment is promoted through discussion, reflection and exposure to examples of good practice. This is supported by »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â's Education Academy.

The strategic and systematic promotion of enhancement is achieved through embedding it within academic quality policies and procedures. Embedding quality enhancement actions within the work that is already undertaken at all levels across the university avoids unnecessary creation of systems of duplication of activity.

Outputs of the university’s Academic Quality Framework culminate in the identification of shared themes, areas for development and enhancement, and activities to be commended, normally taking the form of enhancement and development plans.

Overall, the university’s Academic Quality Framework is focused on:

      • Maintaining academic standards
      • Shared ownership and responsibility for academic quality
      • Building trust through quality assurance and enhancement mechanisms
      • Ensuring university accountability to its stakeholders
      • Promoting continuous enhancement through reflective practice, critical self-evaluation and sharing good practice
      • Engaging students in quality management
      • Ensuring appropriate regulation that is risk-based, transparent, fair and proportionate

Key documents relevant to the implementation and application of the university’s Academic Quality Framework can be found under each of the topic areas below.
