»ÆÉ«²Ö¿â cyber security expert named among world's top 2% of scientists

A cyber expert from »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â Leicester (»ÆÉ«²Ö¿â), specialising in a new form of data security, has been named among the world’s top scientists.

Dr Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Associate Professor in »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â’s School of Computer Science and Informatics, has been recognised among the world’s top 2% most influential scientists in the latest global ranking compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier.

The prestigious list identifies researchers whose work has had significant global impact, based on rigorous citation metrics and composite scores across millions of academic papers. Dr Rehman’s inclusion highlights his contributions to fields such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, and data science.

With over a decade of teaching and research experience, Dr Rehman has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in top international journals and conferences. His research spans cutting-edge areas such as applied artificial intelligence, post-quantum cryptography, explainable AI, and digital healthcare.

Currently, Dr Rehman is leading pioneering work in post-quantum cryptography, an emerging area of cybersecurity aimed at safeguarding data against the growing threat of quantum computing.  The solution is designed to secure sensitive healthcare data against future quantum attacks, with potential applications across multiple industries. The project has successfully completed two phases and is now moving toward commercialisation, including plans for a spin-out company to bring this next-generation security technology to market.

Beyond his publications, Dr Rehman has secured over £1.5 million in competitive research funding, collaborated on internationally funded projects, and serves as a reviewer for UKRI and NIHR funding applications. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Senior Member of IEEE, and an active contributor to global research communities.

Dr Rehman said: “It’s an honour to be included in this list. This achievement reflects not only my work but also the collaborative efforts of colleagues and students who share the vision of using technology to solve real-world problems.”

The Stanford-Elsevier ranking is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive measures of scientific influence, considering both career-long and single-year impact. Being named among the top 2% underscores »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â’s growing reputation for research excellence and innovation.
